Purpose (the WHY)
After doing this assignment, you should be able to:
- Prepare a finished draft of a specific type of business writing that you have done all the preparation for
What I hope you have been introduced to in this class is many of the standards, conventions, and best practices amongst many common situations of business writing. There are a lot of ways to document information for a specific audience. Whatever final project you produce, it should:
- Exist in an accessible and usable format that utilizes effective document design (it should be formatted according to expectations for the specific type you are creating and the audience you are creating it for).
- Target a specific, real audience of people (in this case, members of your target market and any of their audiences).
- Successfully utilize the best practices common to the genre of writing you are creating, as exemplified by professional writers working in the real world.
These will depend highly on the nature of the the type of business writing you’re working on, but will most likely include:
- a web browser (e.g., Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari)
- a word processor, desktop publishing program, or other writing platform
Genre (the WHAT)
Your final project can (and should) be an extension of Modules 1-4. You can extend any of these modules into a better, more robust version, such as the following:
- A WordPress.com blog based on a topic related to your work in the class
- 2-3 Social Media Profiles (e.g. Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.) + a social media strategy you plan to launch in order to begin networking with members of your target market
- A white paper or concise, professional-looking report on a topic related to your intended profession
- A presentation for a conference in your field + a link to the conference submission guidelines (Prezi or PowerPoint/Slideshare are two of my faves)
- A business plan for a business you intend to launch someday
- A consulting proposal for a prospective client
Documents You Must Produce for this Project
The following must be presented in class on Thursday, 12/8/16:
- PowerPoint to your classmates
The following must be posted to Blackboard by midnight on Wednesday, 12/8/16:
- Cover Letter, which should answer the following questions a) what was your writing process for creating this final project? b) what have you learned about the processes of business writing in this class? c) what have these processes taught you about your roles as a future writer within a specific career?
- Answers to the questions under the grading criteria for this project
- A link to or copy of your final project

Essentially, you need to upload the following to the system indicated at the above link:
1) a major writing project (i.e. Module 1, 2, 3, or 4)
2) a description of the assignment for the project (i.e. http://www.guiseppegetto.com/engl3880/module-1-2/)
3) a writing-self analysis document in you respond to the questions indicated in the above link

Audience (the WHO)
The primary audience for your project is your instructor, who will evaluate it based on the conventions you articulate for it, but the real, live audience for the type of writing you are creating is an important audience to consider as well.

Don’t forget to follow the best practices you have researched throughout this class. Continue this research by looking for examples of the genre you’re producing to help you create the best version of it you can.
Don’t forget to answer the questions under the grading criteria.
Use this criteria to help you draft and revise your final project. The goal is the produce a final project that would receive an “A” based on your own criteria.
