Artificial intelligence is transforming workplaces across industries, and technical communication is no exception. Yet despite the attention AI receives in the media, we still know very little about how practitioners in our field are actually using it. That is why we have created a new survey on AI in technical communication to gather real-world insights directly from professionals.
Why a Survey on AI in Technical Communication Matters
Much of the current conversation about AI is speculative. Reports often focus on what AI might do to jobs or how it could transform productivity, but they rarely ask practitioners what is happening right now in their daily work. This survey aims to fill that knowledge gap. By contributing, you will help document:
- How technical communicators are currently using AI tools
- What benefits and challenges practitioners are experiencing
- Where AI is creating new opportunities or exposing new risks
- What support, training, or resources professionals feel they need
Who Should Participate
This survey is designed specifically for practitioners working in technical communication and related roles. If you create documentation, manage content, design user experiences, or contribute to communication processes in technical settings, your perspective is valuable. We want to capture the realities of your work, not just abstract predictions.
How the Results Will Be Used
The responses to this survey on AI in technical communication will be analyzed to create a clearer picture of how the field is adapting to rapid technological change. Results will:
- Inform educators about emerging skill needs
- Provide practitioners with benchmarks to compare their own practices
- Contribute to public conversations about the future of the field
- Highlight areas where professional organizations and employers can provide better support
