This is the real danger: AI-generated content is becoming indistinguishable from human content. And it’s being deployed in the wild—not just for entertainment or productivity, but for persuasion, influence, and manipulation.
We now live in an environment where an anonymous Reddit comment, a slick support bot, or a corporate knowledge base might all be written by machines. And that content might be helpful. Or biased. Or subtly misleading. Or worse.
The Problem Is Bigger Than Reddit

Technical Communicators Must Lead on AI Literacy

The answer is literacy.
As technical communicators, we already specialize in helping people understand complex systems, evaluate sources, and make informed decisions. Now, we need to extend that same expertise to AI-generated content:
- Teach people how to spot patterns in AI-generated writing
- Explain how models are trained and where bias can creep in
- Design content ecosystems that are transparent about the role of automation
- Advocate for ethical guidelines within our organizations and communities
In short, we need to help people read AI content critically, just as we once taught them to interpret instructions, interfaces, or warnings.
The Stakes Are Getting Higher
AI will continue to evolve. It will get better at sounding human. More content will be machine-authored. More people will be fooled.
But with the right tools, training, and awareness, we can meet the moment.

Who wrote this?
What’s their intent?
What evidence is missing?
Is this system transparent about its limits?
